Starfish Alliance and Social Services
We work in partnership with dedicated social work professionals.
We love those who protect the welfare of children!
How we work with local authorities
Because of our cordial and prolonged relationships with many social services offices internationally, the staff and volunteers of The Starfish Alliance have a deep respect and admiration for the people who make up social services.
They provide so much for children in need, saving lives when young people are rescued from complicated environments.
It is our desire to support and serve social services in this important task. Starfish KIDS programmes are designed to promote the welfare of children for whom social services have stepped in to protect. We do this through local churches and faith based communities providing trauma-informed summer camps and mentoring clubs. Programme placements are offered at no cost to carers or the local authority.
Got Questions?
Safeguarding is Paramount
Nothing is more important to us than the safety of the children that attend our programmes. Therefore we take our responsibility as carers and workers seriously.
- Our camps operate with a 1:2 adult to camper ratio. A typical camp operates with at least 15 more adults than the total number of children. For example, a camp serving 25 children would have an adult staff of at least 40 safe, trained adults.
- We train all of our volunteers on our Two-Deep rule, which ensures that no adult is ever alone with a child, and no child is ever alone with a child.
- Our camps have a full-time designated safeguarding lead on site at all times, who handles all safeguarding concerns in accordance with our safeguarding policy.
- All Starfish KIDS volunteers, as part of our safe recruitment policy, complete a comprehensive application, are interviewed, have at least 2 references checked, and have a current and clear Enhanced DBS check for working with children.
- A medical professional and professional camp child specialist (social worker, therapist, etc.) is on site at all times.
- Many of our volunteers are experienced professionals in the areas of education, medicine, youth work, and psychology.
- All Starfish KIDS programme volunteers complete annual mandatory training which includes Level 1 Safeguarding and TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention). Above all else…our volunteers are trained in treating children ROYALLY!!
